The talk gives a brief overview of the actual adoption process, and what a profoundly traumatized child looks like in the context of a normal family; But more than this the talk describes what it means to help in a major, consequential way. What is help, why do we do it, and what do we expect to get out of it. It also talks about how profound help also causes profound hurt for both the helper and the helpee, and that the hurt is part of the help. Like… emotional surgery. The hurt is part of healing.
